Bill closes the sermon series off with the Person Signpost - the most important marker in Paul's letter is Jesus.

Paul's letter starts with Philippians 1:1 (NIV) "Paul and Timothy servants of Christ Jesus"

and finishes with Philippians 4:23 (NIV) "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen"

The Apostle Paul touches on the aspects of his possessions in Philippians 4:11-13 (The Message Translation)

“I’m glad in God, far happier than you would ever guess—happy that you’re again showing such strong concern for me. Not that you ever quit praying and thinking about me. You just had no chance to show it.

Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances.

I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty.

Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am. I don’t mean that your help didn’t mean a lot to me—it did. It was a beautiful thing that you came alongside me in my troubles.”

9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Our verse last week, was Philippians 4:6-7

Firstly, as verses 6-7 say (NIV) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer, petition and with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guide your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Where we looked at Key one: Take your concerns, through “prayer” to God

But Paul gives them a second key, in Philippians (NIV) 4:8

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things"

So Key two: Is all about your “thinking"

Philippians 3:12-13 (NKJV)

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.

Encouraging us to look at how we carry ourselves and live our lives - so that we shine like stars - standing out as a polished signpost to others as a reflection of God working in our lives.

Do Everything Without Grumbling

12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Bill continued on our journey through the letter that Apostle Paul, wrote to the Philippian Church, stopping at various sign posts along the way

On Sunday, Bill spoke the Word on the “people” sign.

And Paul writes the following in Philippians 2:3-7 (New American Standard Bible (NASB))

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.”

Life Worthy of the Gospel

27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
